Middleton reveals how she dealt with split from Prince William

LONDON: Kate Middleton has revealed how she dealt with the trauma of breaking up with Prince William at one stage in their relationsh­ip.

Married since 2011, they had met at university, but their relationsh­ip was not always plain sailing.

The Duchess of Cambridge has just revealed the lessons she learnt from her brief split with the prince.

The pair addressed the breakup, which was covered by the papers, in their engagement interview.

Speaking candidly Middleton, 36, an art history graduate, told how the time away from William was actually a good thing.

She said: “I think I at the time wasn’t very happy about it, but actually it made me a stronger person.

“You fi nd out things about yourself that maybe you hadn’t realised. Or I think you can get quite consumed by a relationsh­ip when you are younger.

“I really valued that time for me as well although I didn’t think it at the time. Looking back on it.”

Prince William also commented on the split.

He said: “I wouldn’t believe everything you read in the paper but in that particular instance we did split up for a bit.

“We both were very young, it was at university, we were sort of both fi nding ourselves as such and being different characters and stuff, it was very much trying to fi nd our own way and we were growing up, and so it was just sort of a bit of space and

a bit of things like that and it worked out for the better.”

The break-up is thought to have taken place over the Christmas period in 2006.

Middleton had invited Prince William to spend New Year’s day with her family.

However, the Prince, after at fi rst accepting the invitation, changed his mind, which led to a serious rift in the relationsh­ip.
