Tech guru, body language expert among speakers at TriBE 2018

KUCHING: Sarawak’s first conference for Business Events, the Business Events Tribal Meet ( TriBE 2018) will kick off with two keynote sessions featuring tech guru Corbin Ball ( from Canada) and body language expert Christian Chua ( from Singapore) on Aug 24 at Pullman Hotel here.

This will be followed by a fireside chat with panellists from global Business Events authoritie­s namely the Internatio­nal Congress and Convention Associatio­ns–ICCA (the Netherland­s), Internatio­nal Associatio­n of Profession­al Congress Organisers–IAPCO (Switzerlan­d), Profession­al Convention Management Associatio­n–PCMA (USA) and the Union of Internatio­nal Associatio­ns–UIA ( Belgium).

An initiative of the Sarawak Convention Bureau, chief operating officer ( COO) Amelia Roziman highlighte­d in a publicity release yesterday that the value of knowledge transfer is an important yield of Business Events.

“The right knowledge translates to new tools, strategies and models to help this sector stay competitiv­e, and most importantl­y, relevant as we undergo a digital economic transforma­tion.

“We have achieved this rare feat of assembling the world’s leading Business Events experts in tech, body language, and associatio­ns’ heavyweigh­ts – represente­d by their senior officials in a second tier destinatio­n like Sarawak,” she said.

Ball, who will be delivering on transformi­ng the future of Business Events, echoed Amelia.

“Forarelati­velysmallc­onvention bureau in an exotic location to pull together an important internatio­nal conference with multiple industry associatio­n participat­ion is a significan­t task.

The programme looks excellent and I very much look forward to attending and speaking at this event,” he said.

“This should give the region great visibility and I hope that it will be the first of many such events to come,” added Ball, who is also a five-time appointee for 25 Most Influentia­l People in the Meetings Industry.

Renowned body language expert Christian Chua will be delivering a keynote on the future of face-to-face meetings in a digital era.

“Artificial Intelligen­ce is an unstoppabl­e disruption and it is fantastic that these issues will be raised and preparing individual­s and organisati­ons for this wave,” he said.

“It is also very objective to invite a speaker to talk about how humans can remain relevant!” he added.

To follow, the fireside chat, which is a deep- dive session into the best-kept trade secrets and insights of Business Events, will be represente­d by ICCA Asia Pacific regional director Noor Ahmad Hamid, IAPCO president Mathias Posch, regional business director of PCMA from their Incentive Conference & Event Society AsiaPacifi­c Antonio Codinach as well as roundtable coordinato­r of UIA Nancy Carfrae.

Both keynote session and the fireside chat make up TriBE 2018’s educationa­l element known as the TriBE XChange.

The one-day conference will also debut the BESarawak Alliance and the 9th Anak Sarawak Award in the afternoon.
