Sarawak Energy team sets weekend to help clean up Lundu beachfront

-

KUCHING: Sarawak Energy as a socially responsible corporate citizen, encourages its staff to give back to society by being active volunteers and taking part in community- related events or activities.

With this in mind, some 80 volunteers from its Finance Department recently spent their weekend combining fun, team effort and environmentally friendly work by collecting plastics and non- biodegradable synthetic materials waste at Siar Beach in Lundu.

According to a Sarawak Energy publicity release, the initiative was led by its chief financial officer Alexander Chin during the team’s annual retreat.

“By actively volunteering our time and energy, each one of us can make a difference especially if we work together as a team. We hope that through this team effort, we can reduce the rubbish on our beautiful beaches and encourage others to do the same during their retreats,” he said.

“We would also like to thank Union Retreat in Lundu for providing us with rubbish bags, and Trienekens ( Sarawak) Sdn Bhd for providing a Roll- On RollOff container to collect all the rubbish which we can be sure that they are properly disposed of,” he added.

The state- owned energy developer and power utility launched a corporate-wide campaign in April this year aiming to reduce plastic usage at its offices and power plants.

At the same time it pledged to phase out single use plastics and polystyrene as part of a three-year ‘Go Green’ campaign with targets to conserve, regenerate and sustain the environment.
