SUPP to carry out internal probe over leak of 10 pointers

-

KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) will carry out internal investigation into the leak of the 10-point understanding in the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to the media.

However, party president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian did not disclose when the investigation would start.

“I am disappointed with the leak ( of the 10-point understanding), I am also very disappointed because the leak was published in newspapers, and the party will carry out internal investigation,” he told reporters yesterday.

Dr Sim, who is Minister of Housing and Local Government said this after officiating at the Padawan Municipal Council’s ( MPP) 22nd anniversary at its compound near here.

Dr Sim added that SUPP will always support Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun openg to lead GPS as spelt out in one of the 10-point understanding.

He also said that the party strongly agreed with Abang Johari who has stressed on several occasions that the four local parties - SUPP, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB), Parti Rakyat Sarawak ( PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party remain united.

Last Sunday during SUPP’s annual delegates conference (ADC) at its headquarters, the party adopted the 10-point understanding but it was not revealed to the press.

According to Dr Sim, the leak surfaced two days after the ADC and was published.

It soon caught the attention of few political leaders, among them PBB vice president Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and United People’s Party ( UPP) secretary George Lo.

Abdul Karim in his response told the party to be patient and pursue its struggle under GPS.

He was quoted as telling SUPP to show that it can win over the urban seats and the present state seats instead of ‘venturing’ too far with the ten pointers.

According to Abdul Karim, the 10-point understanding is just an internal understanding within SUPP which was never raised with its partners in GPS.

Lo viewed the understanding as a wish list by SUPP, and believed that GPS will not revert to the old Barisan Nasional (BN) formula of an exclusive alliance just because of the request by SUPP. ( PDP) -
