Melaka’s Unified Examination Certificate recognition different from federal govt’s
MELAKA: The Melaka government’s move to recognise the Unified Examination Certificate ( UEC) will only affect the state’s civil service and different from the federal government’s, the State Legislative Assembly was told yesterday.
State Education, Science and Technology, Green Technology and Innovation Committee chairman Noor Effandi Ahmad ( BersatuTelok Mas) said the state’s move in recognising UEC involved the recruitment of civil servants among the certificate holders, while the federal government’s recognition was pertaining to the enrolment into public institutions of higher learning.
Hence, the state government hoped all parties would not be confused between the state government’s UEC recognition that was part of the Melaka Pakatan Harapan (PH) manifesto, and the federal government’s.
“If PH Melaka does not deliver the promise, there will be allegations that we betrayed the manifesto. I would also like to state here that the Barisan Nasional ( BN) manifesto also recognises the UEC,” he said when replying to a supplementary question from Datuk Seri Idris Haron ( BNSungai Udang) here yesterday.
Idris, who is also the state opposition leader wanted to know why the state government did not wait for the federal government’s decision in recognising UEC as he feared that the process was not being implemented in a more systematic manner.
Earlier, Noor Effandi said thus far a UEC holder had been appointed as a senior officer in a Melaka government’s company, however, the individual also holds PhD from a university abroad.
He was responding to an oral question from Datuk Md Rawi Mahmud ( BN-Tanjung Bidara) who asked about the state government’s legitimacy in recognising UEC and whether the state government had begun hiring civil servants from among UEC holders.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Adly Zahari (Amanah-Bukit Katil), who also stood up to answer the oral question, said the decision to recognise UEC was appropriate to safeguard the well-being of the people of Melaka with big potential who had been marginalised from being involved in the development of the state. — Bernama
