Bodies express concern over ‘Ladies’ Night’ claim

-

KUCHING: Six civil society organisations have expressed their serious concern over the allegation that ‘ Ladies’ Night’ at nightspots are said to be one of the factors that could lead to unplanned and unwanted teen pregnancies.

The six bodies are Lawyer Kamek For Change ( LK4C), Sarawak AIDS Concern Society ( SACS), PurpleLily Social Association Kuching, Rise of Sarawak Efforts ( ROSE), Sarawak Women for Women Society and Borneo Resources Institute ( BRIMAS).

They said this in reference to the news report in The Borneo Post yesterday with the headline “Ladies’ Night’ spells danger for girls”.

The group in a press statement thus called on the relevant authorities to look into making interactive sexual reproductive health ( SRH) awareness programmes available to all teenagers, both male and female; not allowing minors to enter entertainment centres and stipulated closing times should be enforced; and the allegation of sexual predators with rape drugs at the entertainment centres is a cause for concern.

“The SRH programmes should be incorporated into the current school curriculum. In addition to SRH, the content awareness programmes should also address sexual violence tendencies to combat rape and sexual harassment.”

“We would like to call on the enforcement teams to investigate the source of these drugs and apprehend the perpetrators. Their presence ( perpetrators) is not only a threat to minors but to all nightspot patrons,” added the statement.
