DAP helps student enrol for STPM

-

KUCHING: Democratic Action Party ( DAP) Sarawak managed to help Tang Ai Na enrol for Lower 6 (Science Stream) in SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor with immediate effect as she needs Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) to pursue undergraduate study in Germany.

Ai Na missed the May 24 registration deadline when her application to University of Leipzig was rejected as she does not have STPM.

DAP Sarawak Socialist Youth publicity secretary Abdul Aziz Isa said Ai Na received good Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results in 2016 and completed German Language Level 3 Certificate on May 4, 2018.

“I was approached by her father, Tang Chiok Sung at DAP Sarawak headquarters on July 18 and assisted him to write a letter of appeal on behalf of his daughter to Sarawak Education Department assistant director Sandra Carol Gobal,” said Abdul Aziz in a press statement yesterday.

On July 27, Abdul Aziz received a reply from Education deputy director Abang Mat Ali Abang Masagus suggesting Ai Na reapplied for Lower Form 6 next year or register as a private candidate for STPM this year.

On the same day, he faxed a letter to Malaysian Examination Council ( Majlis Peperiksaan Malaysia, MPM) chief executive Mohd Fauzi Mohd Kassim for Ai Na to register as a private candidate, with a copy faxed to the office of Deputy Minister of Education Teo Nie Ching.

“On Aug 13, with the help of Chong Chieng Jen and Teo Nie Ching, Ai Na received a letter from school management division director ( Education Ministry) Shaari Osman approving her application.

“All of our efforts in less than a month bear fruit. I wish Ai Na every success and I thank both Chong Chieng Jen, Teo Nie Ching, the Education Ministry and Sarawak Education Department for their quick response and support.”
