Salvation Army Kuching to hold annual Sale of Work

-

KUCHING: The Salvation Army Kuching’s annual Sale of Work will be held on Aug 31 from 8am to noon at the Association of Churches in Sarawak’s Christian Ecumenical Worship Centre at Jalan Stampin.

The sale seeks to raise much-needed funds for its children’s and boys’ residential homes, as well as social and community work here and in outlying villages.

Kuching Corps team leader Major Francis Ng said the two homes house 90 boys and girls, while another 20 families are helped monthly with food parcels sent to their homes as far as Padawan and Serian.

There will be close to 100 stalls selling all kinds of food and other items, as well as a jumble sale.

Many individuals, clubs, schools, and groups have responded by sponsoring and running stalls.

“We are targeting to raise RM160,000 from the sale.

“We appeal for sponsors and volunteers to run stalls for us. Any other volunteers who wish to participate are welcome to contribute in their areas of interest,” Ng said in a press release yesterday.

Meanwhile, he said with a number of children struggling with the normal school education system, a learning centre, which is also open to the public, was started to help them learn at their own capability and pace.

“We are grateful for the many volunteers, who provide tuition and help with the children’s studies. Some of them devote regular evenings to coach them in their studies,” he said.

Those interested to contribute can contact Ng on 082-242623 or 012- 4052430.
