Indoor archery championsh­ip for students attracts 80 competitor­s

SIBU: A total of 80 archers, including seven from Sabah and four from Melaka, will participat­e in the 2nd Sarawak State Sports Council ( MSNS) Sibu Students Indoor Archery Championsh­ip at Sibu Archery Centre from Aug 25 to 26.

The event, jointly organised by MSNS and Sibu Archery Centre ( SAC), is aimed at uplifting the archers’ playing standard and techniques.

“It is also a platform for the archers to showcase their shooting skills as they prepare for future championsh­ips,” SAC manager Desmond Wong said.

He said the participat­ion of those from Melaka and Sabah would add colour s t o the championsh­ip.

“Last year, about 60 archers from throughout Sarawak took part in the event. This year, we managed to attract archers from Melaka and Sabah,” he enthused.

Miri, Bintulu, Mukah, Kapit, Sarikei and Sibu are also sending archers.

Meanwhile, SAC archers have brought home medals from the Inter- State Schools Sports Archery Championsh­ip held in Kelantan on Aug 4-11.

Desmond Ho, Alvin Tan and Cecil Nathanel from SMK Tiong Hin won silver medal in the Boys’ U-15 Team Qualificat­ion Ranking while Wenny Lai, Sabrina Chin and Nicole Koh from SJK (C) Thian Chin also bagged a bronze in the Girls’ U-12 Team Qualificat­ion Ranking.

Jacky Sung and Supang Yahya from SMK Tiong Hin secured a bronze medal in the U-18 Mixed Doubles Category.
