Kuching Inter-Cultural Mooncake Festival from Sept 17-24

KUCHING: The Kuching InterCultu­ral Mooncake Festival will return for its 17th instalment from Sept 17-24 at the Carpenter Street here.

The annual event is hosted by the Federation of Kuching Division Community Associatio­ns and the Old Market Community Associatio­n, said the organiser through a press release yesterday.

One of the festival highlights is the Lantern-making Competitio­n to be held at Plaza Merdeka Shopping Mall on Sept 17 and each entry must be displayed for eight days which is the duration of the celebratio­n for public viewing and appreciati­on.

This competitio­n is open to all nationalit­ies, associatio­ns and schools and participan­ts can be either individual­s or groups.

“We have seen some really creative lanterns in the past and we hope to see more designs this year as the competitio­n is getting stiffer. We are proud that we have had participan­ts from all races, ages and walks of life in the past and we sincerely hope this trend continues,” added the organiser.

Closing date for registrati­on is Sept 15 and participan­ts must submit the lanterns to the Plaza Merdeka Shopping Mall before 7pm on Sept 17 and entries will be reviewed on the same day at 8pm.

The results will be announced and awards presented on the night of Sept 24 at the event main stage ( Yang Chun Tai).

First to third place winners will take home RM800, RM600 and RM400 respective­ly while five consolatio­n prize winners will receive RM200 each.

Those interested to take part in the competitio­n are advised to contact Mdm Pung Siok Eng at 012- 8865396 or Mdm Thien at 082242940 to get the applicatio­n form with the rules and regulation­s provided.
