Taman Malihah fire victims assured of HDC assistance

KUCHING: Housing Developmen­t Corporatio­n ( HDC) has given its assurance that the plight of fire victims under their housing projects will be looked into as soon as possible.

Tupong assemblyma­n Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman told a press conference at HDC headquarte­rs here yesterday said the first step was for HDC to wait for the outcome of insurance claims before rebuilding the affected units could be done.

He said the insurance company would require at least 21 days

He added that HDC had offered all the 49 victims temporary shelter at Taman Sri Wangi or Demak Laut flats while waiting for their houses to be rebuilt.

Fazzrudin also revealed that two homeowners were facing technical problems with their insurance claims but assured them that HDC would iron out things to ease the claim process.

HDC chief executive officer Asman Ahmad also spoke at the function. He said the estimated insurance claim for the 10 houses would be about RM200,000.

He also called upon the fire victims at RPR Bandar Baru Samariang where three houses were burnt to be patient with their insurance claim.

“I must thank the volunteers and NGOs for assisting the fire victims who are seeking temporary shelter at the multipurpo­se hall in Taman Malihah with food and clothing,” he added.

Some of the victims are also taking shelter at the homes of their relatives.
