10th edition of Sibu Internatio­nal BASE Jump, Sept 20-23

SIBU: Forty-seven jumpers have registered for the 10th edition of Sibu Internatio­nal BASE Jump, Sept 20-23, leaping from Wisma Sanyan which is reputed to be the tallest building in Sarawak.

Disclosing this yesterday, Sibu Resident Charles Siaw said he is expecting 20 more jumpers. “But they have not confirmed with me,” he added.

According to him, most of the jumpers are from the United States, Canada, and Australia.

Most of the jumps will be carried out in the day time. Night jumps will only be held on Sept 21 and 22.

The annual event is organised by Sibu Resident’s Of f ice in collaborat­ion with Malaysia BASE Associatio­n.

There will be a welcoming dinner on Sept 20 at Sibu Town Square Phase II, while a farewell dinner is slated for Sept 23 at Danial Bujal longhouse.

“Since this is the 10th anniversar­y, there wi l l be a carnival in conjunctio­n with the BASE jump. The carnival will be held from Sept 12 till 23,” Siaw enthused.

Activities on the sideline include superhero costume competitio­n for jumpers, Kenyalang Strongman competitio­n, kite flying, buskers, Line Dancing, ‘ Sukan Rakyat’, skateboard competitio­n, colouring competitio­n for children, walkamile, rabies and Hand Food and Mouth Disease awareness programmes, cooking competitio­n, and cultural performanc­es.
