Police detain Brunei woman for suspected illegal cyber gambling

LIMBANG: Police on Wednesday nabbed a senior citizen from Brunei on suspicion of conducting illegal cyber gambling activities at an unnumbered house here.

The 60-year- old woman suspect was caught by a police team during a raid under ‘Ops Dadu’ at a house in Kampung Seberang Kedai around 5.50pm.

Limbang OCPD Superinten­dent Mohd Bukhori Saffai confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect looked shocked when the CID team from IPD Limbang raided the house suspected to be used for the illegal gambling activities.

The raiding party also seized two smartphone­s suspected to be used in the activities.

The case will be investigat­ed under Section 4 B ( b) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 which carries a penalty of a fine not less than RM10,000 and not exceeding RM100,000 for each gaming device seized and imprisonme­nt not exceeding five years if convicted.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation, an inebriated man was detained by police here at a roadblock in Jalam Tarap/Kubu after he failed a sobriety test in the anti- drunk operation dubbed “Ops Mabuk”.

The suspect, a 62 year- old security guard from Kampung Bakol, failed the breath-analyser test while two others passed.

“We issued six summonses in the operation for assorted traffic offences,“said Bukhori.

The offences included failure to produce driving licence and road tax stickers during the four-hour operation which started at 10pm on Wednesday.

Limbang Traffic Police chief Inspector Ejan Abu led the operation.
