Team from Hope Place attends talk on TB

-

KUCHING: The whole team from Hope Place attended a health talk on tuberculosis ( TB) by head of TB control unit in Kuching Dr Mirunaaleni Selvaraju ( Dr Miruna) recently.

Dr Miruna has referred several cured TB patients to Hope Place for help. Hope Place is currently assisting three TB patients who are poor and also too sick to work, including one who is also HIV positive.

Last year alone, the Anti TB Association of Sarawak (Atas) clinic has treated more than 500 TB patients. According to Dr Miruna, her clinic was able to cure about 90 per cent of the cases.

As the team from Hope Place is often at risk while visiting those with spreadable diseases, it is important to have full understanding and knowledge of diseases like TB.

She shared about the symptoms, treatment as well as prevention of TB, ending with discussion on the misunderstanding and the misconceptions of the disease.

“People do not take common illnesses like coughs too seriously. However if the cough is persistent, it is better to seek a doctor’s advice before it’s too late,” said Dr Miruna.

Hope Place thanked Dr Miruna and her dedicated team for fighting TB in Kuching. Hope Place is always ready to collaborate with hospitals and clinics in Kuching to help care for the people’s welfare and health.
