MSU graduates receive scroll at 23rd convocation ceremony
KUCHING: Management and Science University (MSU) awarded 551 diplomas, 1,013 bachelor’s degrees and 36 postgraduate degrees at its 23rd Convocation ceremony recently.
There were also two recipients of honorary degrees and five categories of Special Awards presented to 53 winners from among the graduating Class of 2018.
The first of the three- session ceremony witnessed the conferment of the MSU Honorary Doctorate in Entrepreneurship to homegrown corporate entrepreneur Tan Sri Dr Lim Wee Chai. The founder and executive chairman of Top Glove Corporation stewarded the company from its modest 1- production-line beginning into its current standing as world-largest rubber- glove manufacturer commanding a 25 per cent global market share.
The other recipient of the honorary degree was recognised for his pioneering contribution setting a global standard in quality accreditation of international education. Dr Maurice K Dimmock, chairman of the UKbased Accreditation Service for International Schools, Colleges and Universities (ASIC), was conferred the MSU Honorary Doctorate in Education Management.
The coveted Chancellor Gold Medal Award went to Bachelor of Biomedical Science ( Honours) graduate Arivananthan Kanakasundar, who received a trophy, RM3,000 in cash, and RM18,000 scholarship for higher studies at MSU.
Bachelor in Counselling and Guidance (Honours) graduate Nur Kamarina Tajuddin and Diploma in Fashion Design graduate Era Masturah Ramlee each received the President Award, which comes with a trophy, RM2,000 in cash, and RM15,000 scholarship for higher studies at MSU.
Bachelor of Medical Sciences (Honours) graduate Azral Ismawy Ahmad received the Mohd Shukri Yajid Outstanding Award, and walked away with a trophy, RM1,000 in cash, and RM10,000 in scholarship.
A total of 24 graduates received the Academic Award and twentyfive the Industry Award. Sponsors of the Industry Award include Top Glove Corporation Berhad, Bank Negara Malaysia, Permodalan Nasional Berhad, Sirim Berhad, Puncak Niaga Holdings Berhad, Celcom Axiata Berhad, Philips Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Affin Islamic Bank Berhad, Malaysian Institute of Accountants, Acer Malaysia Sdn Bhd, SP Setia Foundation, UMRA Hospital, Holiday Inn Glenmarie Kuala Lumpur, I- City Properties Sdn Bhd, Ascendsys Sdn Bhd, Topcon Instruments ( Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Malaysian Hoya Lens Sdn Bhd, and Brown Hospital Sri Lanka.
The 23rd convocation ceremony of Management and Science University ( MSU) also presented MSU’s first batch of Diploma in Music Technology graduates as well as trainees of the Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM).
