KUCHING: The people of Sarawak are urged to support Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to protect and continue to fight for Sarawak’s rights.

In making the call, Santubong MP Dato Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said it was pointless for the people to support Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Amanah or PAS, which are peninsula-based political parties.

“To enable our political leaders to protect and pursue the fight for our rights as spelt out under the Malaysia Agreement (MA63), Sarawakians must give their undivided support to GPS, instead of supporting peninsulabased political parties.

“If you (the people) vote for PKR, Amanah or PAS, they will go back to Peninsular Malaysia,” Wan Junaidi said yesterday when presenting emergency aid to 44 people at his service centre, here.

The aid was presented to 43 recipients for education purposes worth RM20,500 and one who suffers from a chronic disease (RM1,500).

Wan Junaidi added that only GPS would be able to fight for Sarawak’s rights.

GPS is a coalition of four local political parties- Parti Pesaka Bumiputers Bersatu (PBB), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP)- which left Barisan Nasional after it lost in the 14th General Election.

Wan Junaidi also pointed out that the people have been cheated by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government for not honouring its election manifesto like reducing petrol prices.

On the emergency aid, he said it started since he was the Batang Lupar MP to reduce the burden of the poor families to send their children for further studies.

He urged the recipients to make full use of the study opportunities to improve themselves, their families and the society.
