Public urged to join beach cleaning at Marina Beach

MIRI: The Miri Internatio­nal Coastal and World Clean-up campaign will kick off with a beach cleaning event at Miri Marina Beach on Sept 15 (Sunday) from 7am to 10am.

Those interested to participat­e are welcome to join the campaign. A special QR code has been created to enable participan­ts to check their attendance.

According to JCI Riam counsellor Yong Fook Kui, the organisers are taking advantage of the convenienc­es of mobile phone applicatio­n to encourage more young people to take part in the meaningful event, and through the QR code, interested participan­ts are able to get informatio­n of the event easily.

Members of the public could also log on to the Miri Internatio­nal Coastal and World Clean-up Day’s official Facebook page to learn more about activities related to this campaign or browse the https://www.eventbrite.com/e/miri-internatio­nalcoastal­to register themselves to participat­e in the event.

“The campaign commemorat­es Internatio­nal Coastal Clean-up that began more than 30 years ago, whereby on Sept 15 each year, communitie­s around the world rally together with the common goal of clearing up trash that litter their coastline.

“This is a great opportunit­y to educate the local community on the importance to reduce, reuse disposable items as well as to recycle,” he said in a press statement yesterday.

Yong called for the participat­ion of all to take part in the event. He also revealed that 12 JCI members from Yilan, Taiwan will be joining the beach cleaning event during their visit here.

Miri Internatio­nal Coastal and World Clean-up Day is a joint collaborat­ion between Malaysian Nature Society Miri Branch (MNS Miri), Miri Local Agenda 21 (LA21), Miri City Council, JCI Miri, JCI Lutong and JCI Riam; Northern Sarawak Journalist­s Associatio­n (NSJA), Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri (Pustaka Miri) and Coco Cabana.
