BINTULU: A woman suspected of prostitution injured herself after jumping from the first floor of a hotel room here in an ultimately failed attempt to escape a police raid last Friday.

District police chief Supt Zulkipli Suhaili said the suspect was among four women nabbed during the operation, codenamed Ops Noda, for alleged involvement in prostitution.

“The suspects comprised three foreign women and a local, all aged in their 20s. During the raid, we seized mobile phones, condoms, lubricants, three foreign passports and cash amounting to RM4,083.

“The suspect who jumped from the first floor of the hotel at Jalan Tanjung Batu in her attempt to escape was caught and send to Bintulu Hospital for treatment,” he said yesterday.

According to Zulkipli, the women are part of a group that utilises various apps and online platforms to promote their sex services, with each customer charged RM230 for a 45-minute session.

The suspects have been remanded under Section 372B of the Penal Code for soliciting for the purpose of prostitution, which provides a jail term of not more than one year, a fine or both.

The three foreigners are also being investigated under Section 39(b) of the Immigration Act 1963 for violating their social visit passes.

If convicted, they could be fined up to RM1,000 or jailed not more than six months, or both.
