Kindergarten teachers should be held in high esteem – Wong

-

SIBU: Kindergarten teachers play a pivotal role in moulding and shaping the young generation into what they are in the future.

As such, they deserve to be duly recognised by the government for their noble role, sacrifice and contributions, Minister of International Trade and ECommerce Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh said.

“Such has not been so over the years. Now it is time to give due recognition to them for this highly noble profession,” he said in his address at the 30th anniversary dinner of Kindergarten Association for Sibu, Kapit and Sarikei Divisions ( KASKSD) in a leading hotel here on Saturday evening.

Sibu Municipal Council chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King, Lanang Member of Parliament Alice Lau and KASKSD chairperson Pricilla Wong were among those present.

Wong, who is also Second Finance Minister, said the teachers should be held in high esteem and respected.

He informed that Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Ministry would be making a study on upgrading teachers of kindergartens, child learning centres and nurseries through training as well as their welfare.

“Actually early education for the young generation will determine their future. This is where a kindergarten teacher plays a paramount role in moulding the pre-schoolers.

“Their role in education at kindergarten level should not be ignored,” he said.

Wong announced a grant of RM20,000 for the association to run its activities.

At the event, long service awards were presented to members of KASKSD who had served six years and above.
