-

MIRI: Works Minister Baru Bian will review and monitor the construction of the Pan Borneo Highway to ensure that the federal government’s RM32.19billion project is successfully implemented.

Disclosing this at Baram District Teacher’s Day celebration here, Baru said the mega project spanning 2,333 km in Sabah and Sarawak would continue and will be closely monitored.

In Sarawak, the project involves a distance of 1,089km from Telok Melano in Sematan to Lawas with an allocation of RM14.2 billion.

“In Sarawak we have roads that are still far behind. The Pan Borneo that was planned and executed by the previous government (Barisan Nasional) will continue and we will closely monitor it.

“As a Sarawakian, I will make sure that the road is built perfectly. I have also planned to monitor the construction of the road myself,” he asserted.

The Selangau member of Parliament and Ba Kelalan assemblyman said the Works Ministry planned to tour the Pan Borneo Highway project in Sarawak and Sabah next month – Sept 2 to 4 in Sabah and Sept 27 to 29 in Sarawak.

Besides monitoring, Baru said the tour is to enable him and the ministry to see the progress of the project.

“The aspiration of the PH (Pakatan Harapan) government to improve the road network system will be enhanced, despite the lack of provisions, but development plans will continue to be intensified,” he added.
