KUCHING: Newly- appointed special officer to the Works Ministry, See Chee How says his priority is to look into ways to accelerate the repair and rebuilding of dilapidated schools in Sarawak.

“We hope that there will be some savings from Pan Borneo Highway and hopefully, the (federal) cabinet can agree that part or whole of the savings from there can be given to Sarawak under the Education Ministry or Works Ministry. Then we can have that money to rebuild and repair the dilapidated schools,” he told reporters in a press conference here yesterday.

See, who is Batu Lintang assemblyman, disclosed that negotiation is ongoing between the government and project delivery partner Lebuhraya Borneo Utara Sdn Bhd ( LBU) to see whether there would be any savings from the Pan Borneo Highway project, adding that the deadline for the negotiation to be completed is by next month.

“The work on the ground is continuing... all the packages the money is with Public Works Department (JKR) here. So they continue, finish their work, get it certified and they will get paid.”

Besides focusing on the repair and rebuilding of dilapidated schools in Sarawak, See said he would also supervise the ongoing projects in the state to ensure that there would not be any delay in completing them.

“You will be able to have savings as well when the projects are completed on time. Saving is now the very important thing because of insufficient funds.”

Apart from Pan Borneo Highway, See said: “There are a lot of projects that are ongoing, (such as the) road going to Kapit, all these roads ( projects) everywhere are ongoing.”
