SGH to hold ‘38 Blood Run’ on Oct 13

-

KUCHING: The Blood Bank of Sarawak General Hospital ( SGH) will hold a blood run in conjunction with Sarawak-level World Blood Donor Day this Oct 13, with 38 Media as the organiser to create awareness on blood donation.

The run which is divided into 5km and 10km categories will start at 6.30pm and 6pm respectively from Vivacity Megamall.

Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Chong Chieng Jen is expected to officiate at the event and take part in the 5km run.

A representative from the Blood Bank, Dr Wong Yi Shen, stated that Sarawak does not have sufficient blood donors.

“Blood donors for the whole of Sarawak came up to about 50,000 but in SGH it was about around 20,000 donors last year.”

“SGH uses about 50 to 70 units of blood per day which translates to about 350 to 490 packs of blood requried per week,” Wong said.

This year’s event is endorsed by Sarawak State Health Department and supported by City Joggers Club and local businesses.

Those interested may register at Vivacity Megamall on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays up to Sept 3.

Alternatively, register at Flexxo Office Solution, Rock Road or Revolution Run Borneo in Green Height Mall here or register online via www.malaysianrunners.com

Participation fee is RM65 for 10km and RM55 for 5km category. Blood donors with their donation books are entitled to RM10 discount on the participation fee for both categories.
