Sarawakians now openly support PH – DAP Sarawak youth chief

-

KUCHING: Pakatan Harapan Sarawak is elated by the encouraging response from the public to the activities and programmes organised by its component parties in state, even at functions which were organised at the last minute.

DAP Sarawak youth chief Mordi Bimol said this showed the people are now receptive to Pakatan Harapan and do not fear being involved in its activities like before.

He cited the Rocket Cup football tournament, which he officiated yesterday, which received overwhelming response although the tournament is limited to just 32 teams.

“It shows more youths now dare to be close to us. It was organised at the last minute, and yet the response we get is very encouraging. Previously, people used to be afraid to be associated with Pakatan Harapan, with PKR, with DAP.

“Pakatan Harapan before is not like Pakatan Harapan now (as we are now the federal government). This tournament is one of the ways for us to reach out to the people. ‘Kalau tidak kenal, maka tidak cinta’ (you can’t love what you don’t know),” he said in his opening speech.

Also present was Puncak Borneo MP from PKR Willie Mongin, who was playing for Team Willie which competed in the tournament’s opening match against SDFC from Kampung Sira.

Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii, DAP Mambong chairman Chang Hon Hiung and deputy chairman Sanjan Daik were other notable attendees.

Dr Yii, meanwhile, in his speech said such tournament was a good way to develop and unearth new talents and advised the participants to maintain high sporting spirit during the tournament.

“As a doctor, I advise you to drink a lot of liquids since it is now hazy and hot,” he said.

The Rocket Cup Football tournament, organised by DAP Mambong branch, is played on a knockout basis. Matches are played at the Padawan Stadium in Siburan, Kampung Sinjok football field and the Bengoh Resettlement Scheme ( BRS) football field.

With help from sponsors, the tournament is giving out RM1,600 cash prize, trophy and medals to the champion; RM1,000 cash prize, trophy and medals to the second placed team; RM600 cash prize, trophy and medals to the third placed team; and RM200 cash prize to the fourth placed team.
