Meluan assemblyman wants to create entrepreneurs through women bureau

-

JULAU: Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat plans to set up women bureaus in every longhouse in his constituency as a catalyst to produce women entrepreneurs.

He said gone were the days when women were housewives as many of today’s women have the skills and potential to become entrepreneurs.

With their skills they could produce beautiful mat, handknitted traditional cloth or “pua kumbu” and other handicrafts, he cited as examples which could fetch high prices in overseas markets.

“Our women already possess an advantage in term of skills, particularly in making handicrafts. I think it is high time to assist them to make good income from their gifted skills,” he reiterated.

Rolland said this at the launching ceremony of a Women bureau at Rumah Sang, Rantau Chire, Ulu Entabai near here last Saturday.

He assured that he would pay due attention to ensure the Women Bureaus act as spring boards for women to venture into business.

He urged members of the Women Bureau to equip themselves with modern information and communication technology to enable them to participate in e- commerce.

He noted that a total of 109 of the 200 longhouses in his constituency had already formed their respective women bureaus.

He revealed that this year, he had allocated RM300,000 from his minor rural project (MRP) fund to assist in the formation of women bureaus and hoped longhouses yet to form their women bureaus would do so as soon as possible and enjoy the privilege offered to them.

During the function, Rolland announced a contribution of RM2,000 to each of the 35 women bureaus with representatives at the launching ceremony.
