-

KUCHING: Delegates from Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( DCCI) and Kadazandusun Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( KCCI) yesterday paid a courtesy call on Works Minister Baru Bian at his office in Wisma Kerja Raya, Kuala Lumpur.

Led by their respective presidents, Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum of DCCI and Datuk Bonipasius Bianis of KCCI, the two chambers congratulated Baru on his ministerial appointment and handed him a memorandum on issues and challenges faced by the communities.

The memorandum, amongst other things, stated their hope for necessary affirmative actions taken so that the Dayaks and Kadazandusuns would benefit under the government’s programmes and policies.

They also stated that both communities are lagging far behind the other communities in the areas of business, commerce and industry, and they believed that it is the government’s obligation and duty to narrow the vast economic divide.

During the meeting, they requested the minister to assist in finding ways to overcome and solve the issues and challenges.

It is learnt that yesterday’s courtesy call was planned during the joint DCCI- KCCI GawaiKaamatan celebration early last month.

The courtesy call was also in line with Clause 7 of the Cooperation Agreement between DCCI and KCCI, stating that both chambers jointly agreed, inter alia, ‘ to keep the official authorities informed of any joint activities and formulate policy recommendations towards the promotion of socio- economic cooperation between the two chambers’.
