Don’t do open burning without supervision — Rep

-

One of the problems is difficulty in getting water to douse the fire if there’s a bushfire or fire on the peat soil.

MUKAH: Individuals or companies involve in farming activities should not do open burning without any supervision especially during the present hot and dry weather.

Daro state assemblyman Safiee Ahmad said that bushfire especially on peat soil, once it spreads, is very difficult to put out.

“One of the problems is difficulty in getting water to douse the fire if there’s a bushfire or fire on the peat soil,” he said yesterday.

He added if there is problem to contain the bushfire, it can easily spread to other areas and will be out of control.

“This is especially so in Daro where there is no fire and rescue service,” he said.

At the moment if there is a fire, Daro has to rely on Bomba Team ( PBS) volunteers only.

The nearest Bomba station is

in Mukah, about two- hour drive from Daro town and then the firefighters need to use a ferry to cross the Batang Igan.

Last August, Safiee mentioned that Fire and Rescue station project costing RM 6.8 million but the station would not be able to be completed in time.

According to the project schedule, the station should be completed by Sept 10 next year.

Fire and Rescue station in Daro is seen as a priority to be completed since it involved the security of the people living in that area.

Apart from bushfires which were reported to happen quite frequently, there was also a fire at one of the houses recently at Kampung Masjid Daro but all occupants in the house were found safe.
