Ministry to hold more youth engagement programmes, says Abd Karim
KUCHING: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, together with relevant government agencies and NGos may hold more youth engagement programmes in several parts of Sarawak to enable more people, especially those from rural areas, to participate.
This was announced by its minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who said programmes held in the past, had received encouraging response from the targeted youths, and most of the activities were well received.
“It is heartening to see that they ( youths) are very supportive of such programmes, aimed to get their active participation and for them to get involved in activities such as sharing sessions, motivational talks, and teambuilding,” he said
Abdul Karim said the ministry, through its youth division, had organised several programmes targeting youths throughout Sarawak with the aim of enhancing human capital development
among the younger generations including those in sub-urban and rural areas.
Recently, the ministry simultaneously conducted Youth Leadership and Empowerment Programme at Riverside Majestic Hotel here, and Youth Leadership Camp and Communication Skills Workshop at Harbour View Hotel on Aug 18-19.
According to him, the response was overwhelming with over 100 participants in each session, which were part of on-going programmes for this year.
The minister, together with the ministry’s permanent secretary Hii Chang Kee, attended Youths Townhall session in Serian last month. It was attended by over 100 youths from throughout the division.
Upcoming events will be held in Bintulu, Miri, Mukah, Sarikei, Limbang, Kapit, and Sibu the venue of this year’s Sarawak Youth Day celebration.
