‘New board members expected to restore TH reputation’

-

MINA, Saudi Arabia: The four new directors appointed to the Tabung Haji ( TH) board are expected to help restore the image of the pilgrims management and fund board as a reputable institution trusted by Malaysians, says Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa.

He said it is hoped that the board of directors would also be able to revive the image of TH from its business perspective in the future.

Three of the new directors are former attorney- general Tan Sri Abu Talib Osman; Malaysia Professional Accountancy Centre chief executive officer ( CEO) Datuk Zaiton Mohd Hassan and deputy chairman of the Syariah Advisory Council of Bank Negara Malaysia, Prof Dr Ashraf Md Hashim.

Datuk Seri Ismail Bakar has been appointed as the Treasury representative on the TH board.

He is the secretary- general of the Treasury.

The appointments are effective Aug 10.

Abu Talib currently heads the Special Committee on 1Malaysia Development Bhd.

Zaiton is a director of Bank Islam, Sime Darby Plantations Bhd and Dolphin International Bhd.

Ashraf is a member of the Securities Commission Syariah Advisory Council and chairman of the Bursa Malaysia Syariah Committee.

“The new TH board of directors has the potential to make TH an institution that will restore the (national) honour and be the pride of the tens of thousands of TH depositors,” Mujahid said to journalists after visiting the camps of the Malaysians pilgrims in Arafah on Monday.

These board directors would begin the work of restoring the image of TH along with the recently-appointed TH chairman and CEO, he said.

TH had appointed former Securities Commission executive chairman Tan Sri Mohammed Nor Md Yusof as its new chairman and former BIMB Holdings Bhd chief executive Datuk Seri Zukri Samat as its new CEO. — Bernama
