Kapit Fest 2018 to be more than just about merry-making as various other activities planned

-

KAPIT: A variety of activities have been lined up as part of this year’s Kapit Fest as organisers seek to make the event more than just about merry-making.

Kapit Deputy Resident and organising chairman Galong Luang said among the objectives of the fest is to enhance the entrepreneurial skills of local folk through the setting- up of stalls to generate income.

“We want to provide a platform for potential entrepreneurs to participate in businesses. We hope to see more involvement from the Bumiputera community, particularly from first- timers,” he said after a meeting with organising committee members here yesterday.

The fest is scheduled to take place from Sept 21 to 30 at the Old Airport.

According to Galong, new events such as Kapit Fun Run have also been added this time around to promote health awareness and encourage people to involve themselves in outdoor activities.

“The whole idea is to have Kapit Fest be more than just about merry-making. We want to make it more meaningful in terms of guiding and encouraging people to improve their entrepreneurial skills.

“We are also teaming up with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs to educate the public to be wise consumers and to be mindful of the quality and prices of goods they purchase,” he added.

In addition, Galong said the fest will also stage the divisionlevel Anugerah Carta Sapa Juara 2018 where contestants will vie to represent Kapit in the state-level competition.

Other activities planned include powerboat race, mini regatta, raft safari, Kapit Iron Man, beauty pageant, weaving and beading competition, healthy cooking competition, children’s colouring contest and blowpipe competition.
