1000M record tumbles a third time

- By Scoop

KUCHING: The 1000M record took another knock on Sunday – the third in three days of racing.

Doing the honours this time around was Monolita ( Jasmi Kamar).

The five-year- old finished fifth last week but improved by a slew of lengths on the special ‘third day’ of the Aug Meeting to beat the Class One field in Race Five and set a new record for 1000M.

The Beraya Stable’s speedy racer made every post a winning one to stop the clock in 1:11.8 — two lengths clear of Dream Catcher II (Roslan Bujang) with previous 1000M record holder Suaji (Amin Abang) a distant third.

Monolita, owned by Beraya Stable and trained by Tamizi Putit, paid RM12.

Suaji first set the record (1:16.3) on the First Day before cutting it down to 1:14.6 on the Second Day. Monolita improved it by 2.8 seconds on Sunday.

It was third time lucky for Wind Chaser ( Roslan Bujang) who galloped like the wind on the firm track in Race Four (Class II –1000M) to avenge two prior second best outings.

Always the bridesmaid but never the bride. The eight-year-old proved the doubters wrong on Sunday when it took the wind out of the sails of the seven-strong field with an abovethe-ground performance to win by a distance.

Volcano ( Hamid Elli) finished second with Storm Raider (Othman Putit) third, a neck away.

Wind Chaser, owned by W Stable and trained by Edmund Sim, paid RM10.

Naga Laut (Amirzull Othman) who ran third last week, stepped up on that effort to register an emphatic win in Race Two (Class IV – 1000M).

The eight-year-old found the right gear in the good going to canter home by a distance.

Sau Tugau ( Maruf Wahab) f inished second with Young Generation third, two lengths adrift, for a stable queue up.

Naga Laut, owned by Penny Stable and trained by Lee Moi Fong, paid RM11.
