Good Samaritans donate to retirement home for nuns

-

KUCHING: Volunteer social worker Lim Chee Haw and a group of Good Samaritans pooled their resources to purchase some necessities for Home of Santa Clara, a retirement home for Catholic nuns at Jalan Airport here.

Though a Buddhist, Lim does not hesitate to help the home which is currently taking care of more than 10 octogenarian nuns.

He said the group has contributed items such as rice, sugar and adult diapers to the home several times this year.

“I would like to thank the Good Samaritans who responded to my request to assist although they may not be of the same religion or race.

“It is nice to see the spirit of giving back is still strong, especially among those who have achieved success and want to help the less fortunate members of our society irrespective of race or religion,” said Lim, a retired Marine Police personnel now devoted to charity work.

He thanked Law and family from Foochow Road No 2, Fook Lai Construction in MJC Batu Kawa, Hii and Chia from Jalan Matang, and others for their assistance in this latest act of charity.

On a related matter, Lim said he has now performed more than 760 acts of charity, and aims to reach 1,000 in the next few years.

The other act of charity includes donating coffins to poor families for a departed family member. Lim explained that cash donations from Good Samaritans are ‘ parked’ at a coffin shop here to be used whenever a genuine request was received.

So far, such assistance has been rendered to families at Kampung Sadir in Puncak Borneo, Sungai Apong in Kuching, Kampung Murud Plaman near Serian, Kampung Sinjog near Siburan, Kampung Sabang in Simunjan, Kampung Tanah Merah at Mile 27 Kuching- Serian Road and Kampung Mantung Marau in Serian.

Lim said he can be contacted at 082- 248153 or 016- 8070388 to receive assistance.
