High tea to mark S’wak-level National Day do

MIRI: The Sarawak government will hold a high tea reception at Pullman Miri Waterfront Hotel to mark Sarawak-level National Day celebratio­n on August 31.

Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip said more than 500 guests have been invited to the 9am reception.

Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib will grace the occasion.

“The reception will be also attended by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Datin Patinggi Dato Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang,” he stated in a press conference after chairing the main organising committee for the National Day celebratio­n at the hotel here yesterday.

On the programme, Talib who is also Minister for Integrity and Ombudsmen Sarawak said children representi­ng various ethnic groups will sing ‘Sarawak Harmony’ upon the arrival of the TYT and wife.

Some 30 dancers from ‘Bangkit Berinspira­si’ will perform a welcoming dance reflecting the unity and harmony of the multiracia­l people in Sarawak followed by prayer and video presentati­on as well as cake cutting ceremony.

“The video presentati­on will send a message on unity and harmony as we celebrate our achievemen­ts and success in Malaysia.

“National Day is a meaningful occasion to celebrate the patriotic spirit, unity and harmony that prevail among the various races in the country,” said Talib.

This year’s National Day theme ‘ Love My Malaysia’ portrays Malaysians of different races living in diversity, harmony and unity with a strong affection for the nation.

“As we are all Malaysians, this national day celebratio­n should be able to uplift the spirit of patriotism regardless of our ethnic background­s, religion and age.

“Thus, it is paramount to ensure that our nation, Malaysia continue to have conducive environmen­t for our people to develop their potential to the maximum.

“As we know, diversity is our strength in Malaysia and we need to appreciate the prevailing unity and harmony and further strengthen them to ensure a better future for all Malaysians.

“While celebratin­g the national day, I hope we will renew our love for our country and one another.”

The minister encouraged owners of business premises in the Sarawak to fly the national and Sarawak fl ags to show their patriotism.

Also present were Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin and Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Childhood Developmen­t Rosey Yunus.
