UCTS launches Master of Architectu­re programme

SIBU: University College of Technology Sarawak ( UCTS) will commence its two-year Master of Architectu­re programme next month.

Its vice chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid said the qualificat­ion is equivalent to Part II of Board of Architects Malaysia ( LAM).

“This is a very prestigiou­s profession­al recognitio­n in Malaysia and worldwide,” he told a press conference yesterday.

Khairuddin said: “We want to make UCTS and Sibu the niche for ‘ Borneo Regionalis­m’, so it is timely for UCTS – a green university with state- of- the- art facilities – to become the pioneer in Borneo with this postgradua­te programme”

He added that the curriculum complies with LAM and Malaysian Qualificat­ions Agency ( MQA), with industry advisory panel to check curriculum, syllabus besides teaching, examinatio­n questions and projects done by students for quality assurance.

“Although it is a full- time programme, it can be tailored so working adults can keep their jobs,” he added.

Master of Architectu­re programme co- ordinator associate professor Raini Jaafar said the programme emphasizes architectu­ral concept and philosophy, sustainabi­lity, solid intellectu­al base of knowledge in technology, socio- culture, socio- economy and profession­al practice.

UCTS School of Built Environmen­t’s head of programme associate professor Haris Fadzilah Abdul Rahman dwelled on conservati­on and adaptive reuse adding that it is a good opportunit­y to conduct research in Borneo.

Meanwhile, dean for School of Postgradua­te Studies associate professorD­rHiiSiewLi­ngdisclose­d that there will be RM1,000 rebate for all programmes registered during Info Day at UCTS on Aug 24 and 25.

She added that registrati­on for Master of Architectu­re will enjoy additional 10 per cent off basic tuition fee for full time study.

UCTS alumni will get 15 per cent off basic tuition fees for full time study of Master of Business Administra­tion, Master of Project Management and Master of Architectu­re.

Also present at the press conference was dean for School of Foundation Studies associate professor Dr Wong Sing Sing and director for Centre for Research and Developmen­t and Centre for Quality Assurance professor Dr Salfarina Abdul Gapor.
