UCSI promotes Korean cuisine, culture, music

KUCHING: Faculty of Hospitalit­y and Tourism Management (FHTM) of UCSI University in collaborat­ion with Korean Food Promotion Institute (KFPI) held the sixth UCSI Korean Night and Awards Day Ceremony 2018 on Aug 15 at the UCSI Hotel here.

According to a media release, the event to promote Korean cuisine, culture and music was attended by 150 invited guests, including representa­tives from the Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB), Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Youth and Sports Sarawak, Kuching Autistic Associatio­n, Kuching Chef Associatio­n, UCSI Hotel Kuching, Hilton Kuching, Beam Event Management, award recipients, sponsors and local media.

Guest were given a mocktail reception and entertaine­d with Kpop, traditiona­l dancing, singing performanc­es, lucky draws, a talk on autism and were served a variety of Korean delicacies at a buffet party. There was also a Korean booth on language, game and costume,

The highlight of the event was the presentati­on of Dean’s List, Honour Roll and Best Achievemen­t Awards to outstandin­g students of FHTM and Centre for Pre-U Studies (CPU).

Spicy Korean Ramen Challenge (SKRC), a pre- event activity, was held on Aug 1 at UCSI University Sarawak Campus.

The main event project manager Dave Santang said that the event showed the importance of communicat­ion and management skills to successful­ly host an event.

“On behalf of the organising committee, we would like to thank our sponsors such as HD Image Enterprise, UCSI Hotel Kuching, Box World Sdn Bhd, Beam Event Management and Korean Colors,” said sponsorshi­p leader Ferniewena Wong Li Fong.

UCSI University Sarawak Campus houses the Faculty of Hospitalit­y and Tourism Management (FHTM), Faculty of Business and Informatio­n Science (FOBIS) and Centre for Pre U Studies (CPU).

FHTM offers three degree programmes – BA ( Hons) in Commerce, BA ( Hons) in Event and Tourism Management, and BA ( Hons) in Hospitalit­y Management.

Diploma programmes available included Diploma in Hotel Management, Diploma in Culinary Arts and Diploma in Leisure Management.

FOBIS offers Diploma in Internatio­nal Business, BCom (Hons) in Accounting and Finance, BCom ( Hons) in Marketing and BCom (Hons) in Actuarial Studies.

CPU offers Foundation Studies in both Arts and Science which is an excellent pathway to further studies.
