Sarawak’s Nien Chin to give piano recital at civic centre tonight

MIRI: Sarawak’s Chai Nien Chin will perform a piano recital at the civic centre here today (Aug 24) at 7.30pm till 8.45pm, an event organised by Yamaha Miri Music Centre ( YMMC).

Nien Chin started her music career at the tender age of five by joining the Junior Music Course (JMC) at the YMMC.

She began to take piano sessons at the age of seven under her first teacher Esther Yong. From the age of nine until the present time, she has been studying piano under the tutelage of Chiam Su Lee, an experience­d and accomplish­ed teacher.

Under Chiam’s guidance, Nien Chin developed her talent and musical skills. She received her ATCL (at age 15) and LTCL (at age 16) with distinctio­n from the Trinity College London. The same college had also declared her the Sarawak winner for her Diplomas accomplish­ments.

Nien Chin has successful­ly participat­ed in various piano competitio­ns. She was a semifinali­st at the Young Person’s Piano Competitio­n in Kuala Lumpur ( 2014), two Bronze Medal winner at the 23rd KK Music Festival ( 2016), as well as a Silver Medal winner in Youth Category at the Sarawak Piano Festival organised by Euro-Asia Associatio­n of Performing Arts in Kuching (2016).

She has also participat­ed in the master classes with Loo Bang Hean, U- Jin Lim, Shuenda Wong, Krzysztof Slomiak and Quang Hong Luu.

Her latest major success is her acceptance into the prestigiou­s Royal College of Music in London where she will pursue further studies in musical arts.

A Pei Min Middle School Miri student, Nien Chin was a member of the Chinese orchestra. She owes her musical success in a big part to her very supportive and understand­ing parents, who gave her their full support throughout the years.
