Developing Sarawak’s arts and culture through music

SIBU: Mamma-Mia! The Musical is set to establish collaborat­ion and cooperatio­n with government agencies and private sector in developing Sarawak’s arts and culture.

According to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, the objectives are to communise arts among Sarawakian­s and introduce Sarawak State Symphony Orchestra ( SONS) choir to communitie­s outside Kuching.

“That is why we witness various arts events through performanc­es whether traditiona­l, modern and contempora­ry,” he said during the musical performanc­e at a leading hotel here on Saturday night.

Abang Johari’s text- of- speech was read by Assistant Minister of Tourism, Art and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

The musical performanc­e jointly organised by Sarawak Arts Council ( MSS), Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports and Sibu Resident Office, was performed by SONS choir.

Abang Johari said such events could become tourism products to attract both local and foreign visitors to Sarawak.

Also present at the event were Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports permanent secretary Hii Chang Kee, MSS chief executive officer ( CEO) Sharkawi Amit, Sibu deputy resident Wong Hee Sieng and the performanc­e director Yap Chiew Phin.
