Amanah Sarawak records big increase in membership after GE14

-

SIBU: The membership of Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Sarawak has grown substantially following Pakatan Harapan ( PH)’s victory in the 14th general election (GE14).

According to Amanah Youth Sarawak head Mohamad Fadillah Sabali, the number of members recorded last month represented a two-fold increase from that before the May 9 polls.

“Prior to GE14, we had only about 400 members but last month, the number rose to about 800 last month.

“That (number) was the approved membership – those still being processed for approval represent 700 people,” he spoke during a party gathering here on Saturday night, where Amanah Youth chief Mohd Sany Hamzan and Pulai Sebatang assemblyman Taqiuddin Cheman attended.

According to Fadillah, who was a candidate for Tanjong Manis parliamentary constituency in GE14, about 40 per cent of those joining Amanah are under 40 years of age.

In this regard, he expressed his hope for the party’s top leadership to field youth candidates in all 13 seats to be contested by Amanah in the 12th Sarawak state election, which should be called the latest by 2021.

“Amanah needs the youths, because we are the future leaders. Our hope is for Amanah to pick youths to contest in all the 13 seats that the party is eyeing for in the Sarawak state election.

“This is to ensure that our voice to be stronger in the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly,” he said.

In his remarks Sany, who is Taman Templer assemblyman, reminded all Amanah members in Sarawak especially the youths to serve the people wholeheartedly.

“Do not be egoistic – always showing off and thinking too highly of yourselves. If there is anyone from the opposition party coming to us to seek assistance, we must help them out – don’t be proud. This is because we are the government of the day,” said Sany, who later performed the official launch of Amanah Youth Sarawak.
