SIBU: The water element segment for SibuJaya Fun 5 Carnival got off to a splashing success at the vibrant township’s booming business precinct on Saturday.

It was launched by Pansar Sdn Bhd general manager David Tai. The company is the title sponsor for the event.

Tai told the media that he was surprised by the large turnout of around 500 people which then swelled to over 800 as the fun water fiesta progressed.

He said the event was also a good opportunity for Pansar to showcase numerous solutions which were available from the company’s vast stable of products such as the Davey pump for household use.

“We are pleased to be working with Distrepark Sdn Bhd, the master developer for Sibu Jaya, and we look forward to seeing our professional solutions being applied as Sibu Jaya continues to expand at this rapid pace,” he said.

On the water fiesta, Tai said it had a distinctive local flavour in that it was not commercialised.

“In fact, the organisers went out of their way to ensure that the fiesta- goers had easy access to water and also water pistols and pump guns,” he said.

Water tankers were brought in from the town to provide a steady supply of water for the event.

Tai himself was soaked to his skin as he was joined by a mob of enthusiastic youngsters who were themselves.

Earlier in the day, the Fire and Rescue Department conducted a briefing on fire fighting and a simple demonstration on how the department fights fires.

The department highlighted the importance of not clearly enjoying blocking fire hydrants, sign boards or other materials by illegal parking as it could help save lives and properties.

The water fiesta will make a comeback on Aug 31 for the final countdown during the current Fun 5 event which is scheduled to end on Sept 2.
