Team Markers pockets RM6,000 for winning Sarawak ‘hackathon’ challenge

-

KUCHING: Team Markers emerged the grand winner of the ‘Grand Challenge Hackathon Series 2018’ – a feat that earned them RM6,000.

The three- day event, which was run at Tegas Digital Innovation Hub in ICOM Square here, concluded yesterday.

The hackathon series, which was organised and conducted by I Tech Train Sdn Bhd, gathered a total of 12 teams this year. Placing second was Native 404 who bagged RM4,000, while Summit received RM2,000 for finishing third.

“Hackathon is finding more than one way to solve a problem,” I Tech Train business development manager Velmuruga Kalimuthu told reporters at the event.

Judging was based on creativity and marketability of the ideas by participants, as well as viability in solving issues such as helping hikers to navigate through jungles.

Participants were given 36 hours – from 9am on Friday to 9am yesterday – to come up with solutions for the issues.

It is understood that similar hackathons, with different themes, are also being held in Johor, Penang and Kuala Lumpur.

The top two teams from each hackathon will be invited to the ‘ Next Big Tech Asia Conference and Exhibition’, set to take place at Nexus Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur from Oct 2 to 3 this year.

The strategic partners for Grand Challenge Hackathon Series 2018 here were Forest Department Sarawak and Sarawak Forestry Corporation.
