Family at Ellis Road receives new wheelchair from Good Samaritans

-

KUCHING: A poor family at Ellis Road here yesterday received a new wheelchair from a group of Good Samaritans yesterday, just a week after another different group donated food items to them.

Voluntary social worker Lim Chee Haw handed over the wheelchair – said to be donated by one Mr Chin and his family – to Salamah Abdullah, whose husband Suhaili is paralysed after having a stroke.

Lim said this group responded immediately to his request to assist the family after their plight was highlighted last week.

“I lived through poverty and hardship before; therefore, I appreciate any help by anyone to assist and reduce the financial burden of those in such predicament.

“This spirit of helping others in need, irrespective of racial or religious backgrounds, must be promoted and encouraged,” said Lim, a retired Marine Police personnel who is now devoted to doing charity work.

On a related matter, Lim said he could be contacted via 082248153 / 016- 8070388 for assistance regarding the provision of coffins to those needing them for the funeral of any departed family member.

According to him, the cash donations from the Good Samaritans are ‘ parked’ at a coffin shop here – ready for use whenever a genuine request is received.

He said so far, such assistance had been rendered to families at Kampung Sadir in Puncak Borneo, Sungai Apong here, Kampung Murud Plaman near Serian, Kampung Sinjog near Siburan, Kampung Sabang in Simunjan, Kampung Tanah Merah at Mile 27 of Kuching- Serian Road, and Kampung Mantung Marau in Serian.
