KUCHING: In keeping up with the latest technology in the funeral industry, Nirvana yesterday unveiled its first ‘ Smart Zone AA’ – a cremation compartment which uses digital technology.

The technology is the result of the signing of a memorandum of understanding ( MoU) between Nirvana and a company from China that manufactures funeral equipment, said Nirvana Memorial Park managing director Anna Wong.

With the Smart Zone AA technology, a photo of the deceased is uploaded via Bluetooth along with their life story. It will also have music playing for those visiting.

“The purpose of the MoU is to import their technology to Malaysia, and the first result is the Smart Zone AA.

“We have been in the business for 19 years and we never stop trying to improve and upgrade. We have been to many places to get new technology in the funeral industry for the people here in Kuching,” said Wong at the 16th Enlightenment Ceremony held at the memorial park.

Currently, there are 32 Smart Zone AA plots available – part of the first phase of 128 such plots. For the launching, the plot is on offer at RM58,888 until the end of September.

Aside from that, Wong said the temple is currently being renovated and upgraded, with construction works expected to complete by year end.

Yesterday’s event was graced by Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Chong Chieng Jen and Padawan Municipal Council ( MPP) councillor Amy Tnay, representing MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang. Also present was Nirvana executive director Siaw Chow Jin.

The Enlightenment Ceremony is held on the 15th day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar. It is a Chinese tradition to remember their deceased ancestors and relatives.
