Focus on making Sarawak a high income state, urges Lee
MIRI: The people should focus on the common aim of making Sarawak a high-income state by 2030.
Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin said total commitment from the people in keeping abreast with the mainstream development agenda would enable the government to achieve its objective.
“After the 14th General Election (GE 14), the scenario of politics in the country has changed.
“Even so, we should not let these changes affect our focus to push Sarawak into greater achievements,” he said when launching the Miri Malay Association’s ( PMM) 60th anniversary cum Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration at the association’s premises in Jalan Kipas here yesterday.
Although the four parties in the Sarawak government coalition namely Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB), Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak ( PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party ( PDP) had left Barisan Nasional ( BN) and formed Gabungan Parti Sarawak ( GPS), the Senadin assemblyman stressed that BN had contributed a lot to Sarawak’s development.
“We cannot deny that BN did a lot for Sarawak. Our decision to leave BN is because we wanted to see Sarawak continue to progress further.” In view of that, he called on the people to work with the leaders in the Sarawak as only people in the Sarawak know what were best for Sarawak.
At the same time, he said there was a need for the people to continue to stay united regardless of their different cultural and religious backgrounds.
“Sarawak is indeed a real model for racial unity and religious harmony in the country. Even so, we should not take such unity for granted. Instead, we should continue to renew and further enhance the noble spirit in order to make Sarawak stronger in all aspects of development.”
On the PMM, he said the association had contributed various developments for the city since its inception over the last 60 years.
Thus, he welcomes constructive input from the association particularly from the young members to spur Miri into a more vibrant economic centre.
Also present were Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Childhood Development Rosey Yunus, Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, Member of Parliament for Sibuti Lukanisman Awang Sauni, political secretaries to chief minister Sarkawi Suhaili and Julani Mokhtar, deputy Miri mayor Julaihi Mohamad, chairman of PMM Radzali Alision, president of Miri Melanau Association Datuk Alexander Mayor and president of Miri Jati Mierek Association Datuk Abdillah Abdul Rahim.
At the function, the four elected representatives presented government grants of RM10,000 each under their Minor Rural Project ( MRP) allocation to PMM.
