Lions club urged to hold joint activities with other NGOs
KAPIT: Lions club in Kapit have been told to organise joint activities with other nongovernmental organisations ( NGOs) that focus on community services.
The advice came from Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat on Saturday evening when speaking at the joint installation ceremony and dinner of Lions Club Kapit and Lions Club Song at the civic centre here. The gathering was attended by some 300 distinguished lions from Lions District 308 A2 led by district governor Tiong Yong Tiing.
Jamit suggested that among the activities they could hold together are Eye- Sight First Campaign, Green Environment, Food for the Hungry and Community Health programmes, which at the same time could further enhance the close working relationship among the people of the various racial groups towards fostering peace and harmony in the society.
“I hope that Lions Club Kapit members can work closely together with the various government agencies and ruling parties under the leadership of our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to play the supporting role in providing inputs, constructive ideas and suggestions to bring further development to Kapit,” Jamit added.
He called on new committee members of Lions Club Kapit to carry out their task responsibly and look into the welfare of the members and the community in Kapit in general.
“Your works never go unrewarded. The rewards are numerous when helping others in need. I hope you can make the upcoming year, a year to remember and reach out even more,” Jamit urged.
At the function, Jamit announced government grant of RM5,000 each to Lions Club Kapit and Lions Club Song.

Those in attendance were first vice district governor Dr Gan Kean Siong, second vice district governor Roland Chieng Yew Hee, Region 2 chairperson Joseph Yong Poh Lai, Zone 4 chairperson Hii Yik Ping, immediate past president of Lions Club Kapit Ting Bee Eng, president of Lions Club Kapit Sng Geok Yian, president of Lions Club Song John Kho Chong Bie, Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, political secretary to the chief minister Tapah Ata, patron Datuk Kristoffer Nyuak Bajok, Bukit Mabong District officer Douglas Pungga and heads of government departments and community leaders.
