Be appreciative of what govt has done for you, says Nanta

KAPIT: The people here have been told to be sincere and honest to themselves when assessing what the government has done for them over the years.

Telling them to be truthful and appreciative of all the progress that have been brought in by the government, Kapit Member of Parliament Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi said it would not be right to say there had been no development over the years, especially the past six or seven years.

“The government has been paying attention to us to speed up infrastructure and amenity developments in this division.

“We can’t deny we have developments. Roads were built and rural areas were connected with water supply and electricity. We have developments. It is just that we need more because we are hungry for development.

“Whatever we have, we must appreciate. Over the years, we have achieved a lot,” stressed Nanta on Saturday evening when speaking at the joint installation ceremony and dinner of Lions Club Kapit and Lions Club Song at the civic centre here.

He reminded the guests that it was previously impossible to imagine driving from Song to Kapit to attend the gathering and return by road but now they did not have to travel by express boat and stay overnight.

He said it now takes about an hour by driving to reach Kapit from Song.

Nanta welcomed members of Lions clubs from outstation for making the journey to Kapit to witness the installation ceremony.

At the same time, he said he was happy for the setting up of Lions clubs in Kapit and Song.

“Honestly, I appreciate what Lions have done for me. Lions have done a lot for us in Kapit and Song. It is good that the Lions club spread its wings here. Do your best, that is your challenge,” he said.

As a token of appreciation, Nanta announced a grant of RM10,000 each for Lions Club Kapit and Lions Club Song for their activities.
