YES competitio­n to assist young Sarawakian entreprene­urs

SIBU: Young Entreprene­ur Committee ( YEC) under Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI) is organising Young Entreprene­ur Sarawak ( YES) competitio­n which is open to all Sarawakian­s.

According to YEC president Dr Renco Yong they are targeting participan­ts with 100 new or enhanced business ideas or models.

“Potential young entreprene­urs with their own business ideas will beprovided­withtraini­ngincludin­g business planning, equity allocation, entreprene­urship, presentati­on, financial planning and strategy, social media and internet marketing,” he said when officiatin­g at the Facebook marketing workshop held at SCCCI’s premises here on Saturday evening.

Managing Director of Symmetry Marketing Academy, Penang, William Cheong who has been an Internet entreprene­ur since 2014 was the speaker at the workshop.

YEC was establishe­d in January this year to unite and develop young entreprene­urs in Sibu Central Region for business and networking as well as to enhance skill and knowledge to be competitiv­e.

Yong, who is also the secretary of Sibu Shipyards Associatio­n said the competitio­n will be held in three rounds to select 10 finalists. The first two rounds will be held in November with the final to be held in December in Sibu.

He added that finalists will have to present their business models which must be doable and profitable and training will be provided by experts throughout the duration of the competitio­n.

He said a full colour magazine of the new business ideas will be printed and presented.

The competitio­n offers RM 30,000 for the best business model, with two prizes for creativity and best team work worth RM 8,000 each, according to Yong.

“We often encourage talented people to go to Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu or Singapore for better opportunit­ies. Now, we have to change our mind set and stay to contribute to Sarawak.

“Many young entreprene­urs may not have the capital, network, platform, connection or assistance to kick start your own business. YES competitio­n is the best channel not only to compete but to know 100 new business ideas and meet with experts who are successful businessme­n and young entreprene­urs.

The closing date for registrati­on is Oct 20 or when 100 entries have been received.
