Meritin initiative donates unclaimed items to underprivileged

-

KUCHING: Meritin Hotel has spearheaded an initiative to donate unclaimed items left behind at its premises to disadvantaged families.

The selected families are those adopted by the Lions Centennial Kuching Club and Hope Place Kuching.

“I am truly excited to launch this programme to give back to the community. Meritin Hotel hopes that by encouraging and engaging staff and guests alike to participate in this programme, we not only bring hope and share joy with those in need, but also build more awareness about the underprivileged within our society,” said hotel general manager Olivia Ting in a press release yesterday.

The press release said each day guests leave behind items that mostly remain unclaimed after months or even years.

The items are usually kept at the Lost and Found Department for a duration of time, but will eventually have to be disposed of in order to prevent a build-up of clutter.

It is common industry practice to distribute items to hotel staff after the cut-off period as most are still in serviceable condition.

Under Meritin Hotel’s new initiative, which started on Saturday (Aug 25), unclaimed items of over three months will be given to impoverished families.

Meritin Hotel is also encouraging guests to contribute personal items they might wish to donate at the hotel’s front desk.
