MIRI: A woman proved that there is nothing stronger than a mother’s love when she stood as surety for her teenage son’s RM2,000 bail despite the boy’s guilty plea to damaging her car.

The case was one of two cases of sons who were charged with crimes against their mothers in magistrates’ court here yesterday.

The teenage boy pleaded guilty to a charge of committing mischief by causing damage to his mother’s car.

Senior assistant registrar Md Syafique Md Hilmie set Sept 26 to hear the boy’s probationary report, which will be presented by an advisory officer from the Welfare Department.

When Md Syafique released the juvenile on RM2,000 bail his mother agreed to stand as surety.

Based on the facts of the case, the 16-year-old caused RM100 worth of damage to the roof of his mother’s car. He allegedly committed the offence at 4pm on Aug 15 at Taman Jelita here.

The charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code provides for between one and five years in prison, a fine, or both. The boy was not represented.

In the other case an unemployed man claimed trial to stealing 43 trays of eggs belonging to his mother.

Senior assistant registrar Md Syafique Md Hilmie set Sept 3 for case management and released Mohammad Wong Sie Ong Abdullah, 39, on RM2,600 bail with one local surety.

Mohammad Wong from Pujut 2 faces a charge under Section 379 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code. For this offence, he could be jailed for up to seven years, or fined, or both.

Based on facts of the case, Mohammad Wong allegedly stole 20 trays of eggs ( 600 eggs) and 23 trays of salted eggs ( 690 eggs) worth a total of RM996, belonging to his mother, at 2.30am on Aug 22 at Tamu Muhibbah with another accused.

ASP Mary Ong prosecuted both cases.
