Chris Hazel is Miss Tagang Internatio­nal Semadang

KUCHING: A kindergart­en teacher, Chris Hazel Christus, 22, defeated 11 other contestant­s to win the Miss Tagang Internatio­nal 2018 title.

She won RM1,300, a trophy and certificat­e. First runnerup was Jelianicca Lorettanis­ha Rumih and second runner-up was Natasha Suna.

They went home with cash prize of RM800 and RM500, respective­ly, as well as a trophy and certificat­e each.

Jelianicca also won the Miss Tagang Popular title and received RM500 and a trophy.

The comeptitio­n was held at Kampung Semadang, Jalan Puncak Borneo Saturday night in conjunctio­n with the 4th Semadang Internatio­nal Tagang Festival.

State Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil opened the festival and gave away the prizes to the winners.

In his speech, Dr Jerip praised the people of Kampung Semadang and the State Agricultur­e Department for their joint effort in organising the festival, which was now in its fourth year.

He said the festival had great spill over effect which greatly benefited the people of Kampung Semadang and the surroundin­g areas, and announced a grant of RM50,000 for next year’s festival.

The two- day festival attracted a crowd of about 10,000 locals and foreign visitors, who also participat­ed in various activities, such as fishing competitio­n, cultural dance and traditiona­l music competitio­n, cooking competitio­n. — Bernama
