Penguang: Channel grouses to district council, not through the media

-

MARUDI: Dissatisfaction over local issues should be brought to the attention of the district council instead of complaining through newspapers or on social media.

In saying this, Assistant Minister of Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil said airing grouses through appropriate channels will result in the problems being addressed quicker.

“Do not bring up issues with your areas to the media unnecessarily. There are a number of appropriate ways to bring up these issues to the attention of the local authorities.

“We have councillors and community leaders who are responsible in assisting you in such efforts to solve such problems,” he said when officiating at a community event in Lapok, Tinjar near here recently.

Penguang was referring to complaints received by local communities on several issues, including the unavailability of garbage collectors in their areas.

He also commended the Marudi District Council and participating government departments and agencies for organising the event as a platform for rural communities to get in touch with their local authorities.

“This outreach programme is meant to bring services of the council as well as several government departments and agencies to the local people in our coastal areas.

“I hope that this type of programme will continue to be held to allow the people in this area to get more familiar with the duties and responsibilities of the local council,” he added.

At the event, Penguang also revealed that the terms for councillors of the 26 councils in Sarawak, which was supposed to end on June 30, has been extended until end of this year.
