Socso Invalidity Pension Scheme provides 24-hour protection to insured person
MIRI: Social Security Organisation ( Socso) Invalidity Pension Scheme provides 24hour protection to the insured person against invalidity due to chronic illness or serious injury that has been decided by a panel of doctors or any deaths before the age of 60.
Miri Socso manager Griffin Francis Manggie said although the employee had long ceased to contribute, in the event of invalidity or death before reaching the age of 60, the matter should be reported to Socso for review purposes and to determine the eligibility of benefits to be paid to the insured person or beneficiary in the case of death.
“Invalidity Pension is payable to the eligible insured persons who have been certified invalid by the Medical Board or Appellate Medical Board and it is payable from the date Notice of Invalidity is received or from the employee’s resignation date if he/she resigns after the Notice of Invalidity is received by organisation.
“It is payable as long as the employee is invalid or until death and will be replaced by Survivors’ Pension if the Invalidity Pension recipient dies, regardless of his/ her age,” Griffin told The Borneo Post yesterday after delivering compensation check payment to a recipient of Invalidity Pension here yesterday along with Miri MP Dr Michael Teo and Sarawak Socso director Philip Sangkan.
The 46-year- old insured person was referred to the doctors at Miri Hospital on Aug 15 this year and the panel of doctors confirmed he was suffering from invalidity due to stroke.
According to Griffin, Socso Miri office received the Invalidity Notice from the insured person applying for the Invalidity Pension on July 25 this year and after reviewing the case, Socso Miri found that he had met the age and contribution requirements.
“When the Invalidity Notice was received, he was 46 years old and he fulfilled the eligibility requirements of his contribution as he had contributed at least 1/3 of the contribution from January 1990 to April 2003 and his last employer was a private bank.
“In addition to receiving a lifetime monthly pension, he also receives a regular allowance of RM500 per month as he requires someone to manage his daily life,” he explained.
Griffin added that the beneficiary is also eligible for recovery benefits such as ripple mattress, Hilo bed, wheelchair, commode facility, adult diaper, Ensure milk for daily use and physiotherapy as recommended by the panel of doctors.
